African Voices
SHOW #40
Kumi Naidoo
He's the new International Executive Director of Greenpeace, the global environmental action group. Since becoming the head of Greenpeace, South African human rights activist Kumi Naidoo is focused on using his skills as an activist to move issues from the fringes into the mainstream. Naidoo grew up in Johannesburg, where he was arrested numerous times for civil disobedience against the apartheid regime during the 1980s. After several years in the anti-poverty movement, he now sees poverty reduction and combating climate change as part of the same struggle. As world leaders converge in Copenhagen, Denmark for critical climate talks, African Voices talks to Naidoo about how he hopes to put his famed advocacy skills to the test.
