Dr. Mathias Fobi
This week on African Voices…Cameroonian weight loss surgeon, Dr. Mathias “Mal” Fobi. As far back as the 1970s, he developed weight loss surgeries for people hundreds of pounds overweight, when the standard prescription was diet and exercise. He created a variation of the gastric bypass and went on to develop his signature “Fobi Pouch,” a method of weight reduction, which attracted major recognition. In Hollywood, he soon became known as a “surgeon to the stars,” changing the shape of various celebrities. The cutting edge, sometimes controversial surgeon makes it a point to give back to his native country, never forgetting his roots and the traditional values that have shaped his life and success.
