African Voices

SHOW #63

Jonathan Butler

Growing up in South Africa, soulful singer, songwriter and guitarist Jonathan Butler was performing all over his country by the age of ten. As his career grew, so did his political awareness. Butler became the first black musician to be played on the white radio stations during apartheid in South Africa. He continued to write songs expressing his concerns for his country. Some of them were even banned. Butler’s music inevitably spread internationally earning him gold records, Grammy nominations and tours around the world. Butler uses his music to uplift, inspire and share his love for his home of South Africa.
