African Voices
SHOW #53
Kenneth Kaunda
This week on African Voices, one of modern Africa’s founding fathers, Kenneth Kaunda. He fought for freedom and became Zambia’s first prime minister and president. Kaunda held power for 27 years, presiding during a period of great change in his country. He met and negotiated with many of the world’s most powerful leaders and paints an intimate portrait of some of those meetings. Although retired from political life for over two decades, Kaunda has not stopped fighting for his country and continent. His major battle now is the fight against HIV/AIDS. After losing a son to AIDS, Kaunda has worked to help eradicate the disease and its stigma. A man of faith with a strong love of music, Kaunda believes that to be a good leader, a love of one’s people is imperative.
