Inside Africa

SHOW #21

This week on Inside Africa, love it or hate it, it’s the sound that's helped define the World Cup.
We meet a Capetonian ready to redefine South Africa’s vuvuzela. Plus, on the open road, our David McKenzie makes a stop in the eastern Cape. And music in Morocco, we head to the Fez Festival.

Sightseeing in South Africa
It’s hard to believe, but Africa’s first world cup is nearly over. Some three weeks ago, our David McKenzie set out from this very host city on a road trip to the see the best of South Africa. From the western cape, to the eastern Cape, let's check in and see where in the World Cup, is our David McKenzie.

“Green” Noise
With the World Cup fans come the vuvuzelas, and by now, you know the noise, an unmistakable buzz.
While it has certainly attracted lots of critics, the plastic product also has some environmentalists blowing steam. But thanks to a local business here in Cape Town, fans have the choice of making a greener sound.

Morocco's Music Celebration
From vuvuzelas blowing to fans cheering, Africa is the place to be for celebration this month.
Adding to the chorus of sound is Morocco's Festival of World Sacred Music. In its 16th year, the festival united performers from around the world, honoring the different faiths and cultures behind the music. Seema Mathur reports.
