Inside Africa
SHOW #19
JOBURG'S CULTURAL HOTSPOT
We're coming to you from the Newtown neighborhood of Johannesburg. While the business of the city may have migrated north to Sandton, Newton is still the cultural hub. And while this area has always been a draw for the locals, our Kathleen Conway discovered, with the World Cup, downtown Joburg is ready to get in the tourism game once again.
SIGHTS OF A SAFARI
The sprawling Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown is a place to catch an outdoor exhibit or performance. During the Cup, it's a prime spot to watch a match with a few hundred of your closest friends. But if football isn't your thing, you can always head north to the even more sprawling Kruger National Park. It's always been one of South Africa's top draws and a big reason tourism is one of the countries biggest industries, with around 10 million visitors a year.
WORLD CUP JOURNEY
Since he left Cape Town, David McKenzie's been heading east along South Africa's famous Garden Route. He's travelling South Africa this month in a camper van, telling the story of the World Cup through the voices of the South African people. We check in with him and find out where in the World Cup is our David McKenzie.
