As the world descends upon South Africa for sport's biggest event, Inside Africa will bring you the stories that go beyond the pitch. And what better place to start than Soweto. Orlando Stadium usually plays host to Soweto’s best footballers, but Thursday night, it also was the world's best musicians doing the entertaining. And we were there backstage to capture the excitement of FIFA's opening night concert.

Soweto's History

A walk down Vilakazi Street seems like a walk down any street in Soweto. But understand the history and you understand the importance of this place. On the left, the house of Archbishop Desmond Tutu. And just up the street, Nelson Mandela's former home. In this young democracy, Soweto has played a defining role, a role often led by the youth of this neighborhood.
