PRINCE TURKI AL-FAISAL ON THE STATE OF THE REGION

A former intelligence chief and former ambassador to the U.S. and UK, Prince Turki talks about regional concerns and the status of the U.S.-Saudi relationship, traditionally so strong. Is the relationship at risk? Now with President Obama in office, how does that change things or does it? Is a pan-Arab effort on Israeli-Palestinian peace a real possibility? Could we see Saudi leaders meeting directly with Israeli leaders? Nic Robertson sits down with Prince Turki in Riyadh.

THE ARTIST AND THE SOLDIER

Faruq Fouad, an Iraqi artist and an intellectual, was forced out of his Baghdad home by insurgents and for months squatted with his family on rooftops. A US military unit met him while on patrol and later introduced him to CPT Brett Walker, a young American who served in Afghanistan and now at the end of his 14 month tour in Iraq. The two talked about philosophy, art and rock’n’roll… Through arts both believe they could bring change to Dora, a part of the capital that saw some of the worst violence. CPT Walker helps Faruq make one of his dreams of holding an art exhibition in Dora a reality. Jill Dougherty has their story.

TRACING THE PHOENICIAN GENE

Politically divided they may be, but scientists believe the Lebanese are genetically united. In a departure from Lebanon's usual spot in the headlines Lebanese geneticist Pierre Zalloua says he’s isolated a gene common to his compatriots across the religious spectrum. As part of his work on National Geographic's Genographic project, he tested thousands of people across the Mediterranean which was dominated by the Phoenicians 3000 years ago and found they all shared a genetic discovery. Cal Perry meets the man behind the discovery.
