Going Green: Search for Solutions

The world's first 'ecopolis' in the UAE, vertical farms in rundown NYC buildings, Italian 'smog-eating cement' and British carbon neutral beer are just some of the remarkable initiatives highlighted in CNN's global week of special programming, "Going Green: Search for Solutions".

Airing the week leading into the G8 Summit in Hokkaido, Japan, where global warming and climate change are high on the agenda, the week represents the network's most comprehensive assessment to date of environmental threats and solutions in five distinct areas: food and water production, living, business, transport and energy. CNN correspondents report live from five continents, harnessing resources from the network's 30 international bureaus.

The week culminates with a 30-minute special of the same title, featuring highlights of the week's coverage.

Luxury Life

Does Japan still hold the number one spot? Has US demand been decimated by the credit crunch and why are there so many fake Gucci handbags for sale at knockdown prices on the streets of Thailand? The global economy is under attack from many angles, the rise of emerging markets, the sinking dollar, rampant inflation and a US-led credit crunch, but the luxury industry appears to be weathering the storm. What do the Chief Executives of the major luxury companies worry about, which markets are they targeting and what is the next must-have product? CNN’s Monita Rajpal takes a look at the health of the global luxury industry.

Through Their Eyes

It takes uncommon courage to live in Iraq. It's a place of constant danger from kidnappings, roadside bombs and sectarian violence. Iraqis know when they leave their home to go to work or to the market, they could be saying goodbye to their loved ones for the last time.

Most of the news that comes out of Iraq involves stories of violence or politics. Arwa Damon takes us on a different journey: a chance to hear firsthand what life is like for women living in a war torn country. Some are struggling for survival. Others are working to pave the way for future generations of women.

Each of these women live in vastly different circumstances, but they are united by one common bond: their home is one of the most dangerous places in the world.

It's rare for these women to have their voices heard because of the dangers involved. Sometimes, the only way to truly get a sense of these women's lives was to give them cameras because the places they call home are far too dangerous for CNN to go. Also, just talking to a western news organization can be a significant risk for women in certain situations-- a risk they are willing to take so you can see what it's really like to live in Iraq.

This documentary will prove enlightening, inspirational, and sometimes troubling. These are stories of strength and perseverance. Stories not yet told until now. Join Arwa Damon and witness Iraq through their eyes.

Just Imagine

In this half-hour special we ask how might life be different in 2020? Hosted by Ross Lovegrove, one of the UK’s most influential designers, our visionarys will explore and explain the ideas which they feel may have significant impact on our lives in the future.

We discover that the recurring theme amongst all our guests is that of "revolution" . . . in communication, energy, materials, but most of all that these technologies will require a revolution in our thinking if they are to succeed. Will these technologies go on to make the world a greener, and above all else, a fairer place?
