Vital Signs

SHOW #7

Medical Mysteries

While science has come a long way, rare, undiagnosed, mystery diseases continue to baffle doctors around the globe. This month, 'Vital Signs' takes viewers to the National Institutes of Health in Washington D.C. to meet the doctors who have pioneered the new “Undiagnosed Diseases Program”, which is dedicated to devoting research and money in the search for answers for people living with mysterious illnesses. Viewers meet the doctors who head the program and a patient currently being treated. A 27-year-old girl, whose illness was successfully diagnosed in recent years, describes what it felt like to spend 20 years not knowing what she was suffering from. Viewers will also have the opportunity to look back at diseases that were not so long ago considered 'mysterious', such as HIV/AIDS.
