CNN Business Traveller
SHOW #80 (airs Jun 10th)
World Cup 2010
With just a year to go before Africa's biggest ever sports event, the FIFA World Cup, 'CNN Business Traveller' takes a look at whether South Africa's travel and tourism infrastructure is ready for this epic sporting occasion.
Host Richard Quest recently attended the Indaba Tourism Conference in Durban where he discovered that with three million visitors expected during the four-week tournament in 2010, sport is becoming an increasingly important tool to drive tourism growth in South Africa.
However, massive investment is also needed for the country to deliver a world class tournament, so new sport stadiums have been built, and a new airport is currently under construction in Durban.
With at least 50,000 new jobs expected to be created in the accommodation and entertainment sectors, the program discovers how local entrepreneurs, restaurant owners and hoteliers hope to benefit from the influx of tourists.
