MyCity_MyLife
SHOW #11
Carlos Acosta’s Havana
From an impoverished childhood, running with street-gangs, to the stage of the world’s leading ballet companies, Carlos Acosta’s life story is certainly rich and colorful. On the next “My City_My Life,” the international ballet legend shows us “his Havana”.
As the youngest of 11 children in a poor family, Carlos comes from humble beginnings. He recalls stealing fruit and break-dancing in the back streets of the Cuban capital – until his father enrolled him in a local ballet school.
Carlos, winner of the prestigious Laurence Olivier award, makes dance movements look effortless. His grace, poise and charisma also make him a fabulous travel guide – as he shares his love for his home-town.
Carlos takes us on a journey through Havana’s colorful streets that echo to the sounds of music, played out against a backdrop of incredibly stunning and historic architecture. Ballet has made Carlos Acosta a global superstar. Here in Cuba, dancing is a natural expression of everyday life.
