Quest for Man's Best Friend
Americans now spend $41 billion a year on their pets, more than the gross domestic product of all but 64 countries in the world. Richard Quest explores this extraordinary relationship between humans and their tail-wagging companions in 'Quest for Man's Best Friend'.
One of his first guests is 'West Wing' actress Allison Janney who meets Quest at the New Leash On Life dog rescue centre, where doe-eyed inmates wait hopefully for an adoptive family. Such abandoned pooches live very different lives compared to those appreciated by singer Joss Stone, who eulogizes with Quest about the fluffy members of her band.
The show also joins the American Humane Society and actor Richard Gere on the set of a new movie about canine companionship. In New York, Quest pays a visit to the Westminster Dog Show whilst back in Hollywood he helps pick out the doggy stars of the future with animal 'agent' Gloria Winship.
Also on the show, Quest travels to Panama City, where he sees how the specially trained dogs of the Red Cross bring comfort to sick children and prepare for rescue missions during natural disasters.
