The Screening Room
SHOW #28
Africa
This African special edition of 'The Screening Room' features three CNN correspondents reporting from across the continent, as the majesty of Mount Kilimanjaro, the beaches of Mombasa and the slums of Nairobi continue to draw in filmmakers from around the world.
David McKenzie reports from Kenya, the landscape location of choice for Hollywood producers in Africa; Nkepile Mabuse is in Cape Town, the production powerhouse of the South African movie business, and Christian Purefoy reports from Nigeria, where a phenomenal 2,500 films are produced a year, a feat which places Nollywood as the world's third biggest production center behind Hollywood and Bollywood.
The program also marks 40 years of Fespaco, Africa's best known and longest-running film festival in Burkina Faso. Prospects for the future of African cinema look bright, as the talented young Kenyan director Wanuri Kahiu illustrates on the set of her latest film “Pumzi”.
