The Screening Room
SHOW #7
Film Festival Fever
September's 'The Screening Room' offers viewers double-fronted coverage of major film festivals on both sides of the Atlantic.
In Europe, CNN's Alessio Vinci visits the home of the world's oldest film festival, Venice, where Italy's venerated director Bernardo Bertolucci is given a lifetime achievement amongst an illustrious global audience from the film world. The UK is represented by the likes of Michael Caine and Jude Law premiering their new film 'Sleuth', as well as Keira Knightley, who features in the much awaited 'Atonement'. Flying the flag for the US are seasoned directors Woody Allen, Paul Haggis and Tim Burton, Chinese director Zhang Yimou heads the awards jury, and acclaimed director Ang Lee premiering his new movie 'Lust, Caution', making Venice a truly international affair.
North America's leading film festival is Toronto, which traditionally sees the start of the Oscar race, and with big guns including director David Cronenberg, George Clooney and Brad Pitt all due to make an appearance, the stars will be out in force.
