Irishman Padraig Harrington won his first Major Championship, the Open Championship at Carnoustie, in 2008 and became the first European to win one of the four major annual titles since 1999.
This month Living Golf has exclusive access to Harrington and his family at their home just outside Dublin. Don Riddell spends time with the family discovering just how different life has become since winning the Open in July.
EUROPE’S $20 MILLION BOOST
In the biggest ever announcement for professional golf in Europe - The European Tour will boost its annual prize in 2009 by $20 million. A new tournament is to be added and a restructured Order of Merit system. It’s all about trying to attract the biggest names from around the world and keeping their local talent from heading across the Atlantic to the US PGA Tour. Aged 18, he’s just turned professional after becoming the world’s best amateur. He is living up to his promise after just a handful of tournament especially when he played in the Open Championship at Carnoustie, where he caught everyone’s eye with an opening round of three under par. Living Golf’s Chris Meadows chats with the Northern Irishman for an insight to his amazing talent.
