SHOW #61

South of France

Host: Justin Armsden

PRINCE DE PROVENCE – EUROPE’S FINEST OR ENVIRONMENTAL SCANDAL?

This month’s show comes from the south of France and will feature the story behind the controversial golf course, Le Prince de Provence. Over the past 15 years, the course, originally part of wider plans for Europe’s biggest golf resort, has had a long list of problems.

With a world-famous designer behind the project and former world motor racing champion Alain Prost becoming president of the golf club, it was thought the golf course could become Europe’s most elite club. However, environmental concerns and court battles ensured the course has been largely unplayable since it’s opening in 1992.

We visit this idyllic part of southern France to find out whether the golf course has a future and whether the locals are behind the project.

THOMAS LEVET/VERTIGO

Frenchman Thomas Levet was one of Europe’s top players at the end of 2004, having helped his European compatriots to victory against the United States in the Ryder Cup. In 2005, he went to the United States to play on the PGA Tour full-time and was hoping for ‘major’ success. However, tragedy struck when he found out he was suffering from a debilitating illness called vertigo, not only forcing him out of the game but having major consequences on his day-to-day life.

Two years in the golfing wilderness followed as he fought to combat the illness but it would appear that the break worked. Back on the European Tour in 2008, Levet has had a terrific season and our Justin Armsden caught up with him at one of those tournaments to chart his road to recovery.

The usual round-up of tour news.

SCOTT’S HOT SHOTS

This month our resident professional Adam Scott looks at the art of bunker play. Justin Armsden once again joins the talented Australian as he demonstrates some simple tips for the amateur player and also shows you how to impress your friends with some fancy trick shots.

CUSTOM FITTING

Everyone’s golf swing is different so it makes sense to adjust golf clubs to suit the individual. However, with millions of dollars being spent each year on new equipment and lessons, tailoring your golf club is often neglected.

Living Golf looks at the importance of custom fitting and what modern techniques are now on offer to ensure the best possible fit.

SOUTH OF FRANCE

Professional golfers in France are still relatively unknown, much like many of their golf courses. However, the south of France does offer the international traveller some of best golf courses in Europe. Mixed with good all-year-round weather and scenic surroundings, Living Golf seeks to unearth some of these hidden treasures.
