Living Golf
SHOW #73
Lorena Ochoa / Mexico
Lorena Ochoa is ranked the best female golfer in the world. She is also ranked the best Mexican golfer of all-time, and she has dominated the sport for the past couple of years. On this edition of the programme, we’ve been invited to her home city of Guadalajara to find out what inspired her to take up the game and to see if the sport has benefited from her success in Mexico.
The programme will aim to illustrate why Lorena Ochoa has been so successful, why she has thrived in a country largely disinterested in the sport, and how her city and the country as a whole now treats the game.
The show will be presented from her home city, Guadalajara, and feature unprecedented access to Ochoa. We will look at what Ochoa has done for the game of golf in her country and the various humanitarian projects that she is involved in. Ochoa is one of the youngest golfers to start her own philanthropic foundation, adopting an elementary school for 241 low-income children near her hometown. Ochoa and her brother Alejandro, who is her manager, have also opened two golf academies and plan three more this year to train and certify instructors and help students across the country.
Ochoa predominantly plays on the US based LPGA Tour and already has 27 professional wins to her name.
We will also go behind-the-scenes on the people close to Ochoa, those that helped pave the way to success, and those that are now helping her give back to the community.
We will also attend the Corona Championship in Morelia which is part of the LPGA tour. Ochoa is the defending champion and it will be an excellent chance to see how she is supported on a professional level and what the Tour and the Tour players think of her.
