MainSail
SHOW #76
The Little America's Cup
September's MainSail investigates the world of the C Class catamaran World Championships, affectionately known as the Little America's Cup. The event sees amateurs line up their wild and extreme wing-powered machines. Over a week of racing they determine whose is fastest and who will win this coveted championship.
MainSail's Shirley Robertson spends time at the New York Yacht Club with some of the best brains in high speed sailing who have been creating sailing speed machines for decades. Having invested thousands of hours in pioneering sophisticated wings for their sailing machines they have suddenly found themselves propelled from their previous amateur status into the limelight. Robertson goes sailing on these extreme machines, dives into the world of the amateurs and sees which of the wild and extreme designs takes the World title, a title that this year may be worth more than satisfaction and a trophy. It may make the designers of the boat a 'must have' commodity for an America's Cup team.
