Winning Post
Where precision meets tradition. Few sports can match the elegance and history of horse racing. Once a month, CNN will bring you four days of coverage around a major meeting from the world of flat racing within World Sport. Where ancient tradition meets cutting-edge technology, we will bring you the inside track; getting the stories from the top trainers, jockeys and owners in the business, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the fashions and the fortunes that go hand-in-hand with the most glamorous sport on the planet. From the refined Thoroughbreds themselves to the logistics involved with training, feeding and transporting these magnificent athletes all over the world. For the best material from the world of flat racing, join CNN at the Winning Post.
Winning Post will be presented by guest talent, including internationally-prominent racing insiders from the top flat meetings around the world: we start with coverage of Glorious Goodwood in July, arguably the most beautiful racecourse in the world. From there we travel to Chantilly for Europe’s most prestigious horse race, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in late September/early October. Then the focus of the racing world moves to Asia, starting with “the race that stops a nation” – The Melbourne Cup – in early November, the Singapore Gold Cup later that month and the Hong Kong International Races in December rounding out 2011. In 2012 Winning Post is back with the world’s richest horse race – the Dubai World Cup – in March, the Kentucky Derby – “the fastest two minutes in sport” – in May; the Prix de Diane in early June and concluding with the most famous meeting in the international racing calendar, Royal Ascot, in mid-June.
Features will include going behind the scenes at the world-famous Tattersalls Yearling Sales to find out how racehorses are bought and sold; getting up close and personal with top trainers such as Mark Johnston to find out how he prepares his charges for some of the toughest races in the world; and getting a master class in riding from jockey Hayley Turner. We’ll also be going behind the scenes to look at the fashions and fortunes that have become as much as part of racing’s allure as the races themselves - from the understated elegance of Goodwood and Chantilly to the glamour of Dubai and the extravagant hats of Ascot. Winning Post will take you behind the scenes with the unheralded team of vets, farriers, drivers and grooms to give you an insider’s view of racing not before seen on an international scale. For world-class racing coverage with a truly international outlook, don’t miss Winning Post in World Sport.
